new magnet motor idea
« on: July 16, 2015, 10:33:58 PM »
hi,

i dont know if something like this already exist...so i create quick animation and drawing how i imagine this magnet motor...

animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiD3X76CLko

update with 3 magnets (more torque): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV5GYAWh0r8

it will be great if somebody try to create prototype and see if this works :D

what do you think?

Nice idea. I don't see how it gets past the sticky spot though. I think the green circle will be the strongest point of attraction in that cycle. So the blue will attract it there and the red will start to push it to that point as well.

I had this idea on how to build a magnet motor without the sticky spot.

The outer cylinder magnet can also be some non-magnetic weight to provide the offset from centrifugal force once it's running.
It should accelerate up until the centrifugal force pulls the attracting cylinder away from the ring magnet causing a loss in drive until it slows down.

Good idea. Took me a while to figure out why this may not work. I assume your connection rods are all rigid so that nothing is able to move except for the unit as one piece as it slides around on basically a magnetic circular track.

If that's the case then I think you have only "visually" moved the pivot but the "actual" pivot is still at the center of the system. If we replace your repelling magnets with a wood structure that pivots at the center, your "attract" magnet pulls straight through the center of the system which results in no movement. It's basically a complicated looking way of accomplishing the image on the left that has one brown/wood rod with an attract magnet on the end. The pull force pulls straight along the wood, through the exact pivot point, resulting in no movement.

If you could find a way to pull or push the system along the yellow line so that it doesn't go through it's "exact" central pivot point, then you would get movement.

All vectors will always point to the center under all conditions, but it's the combined vectors between the solid frame and moveable points and centrifugal force that can change the final force vector direction.

If you start with only two magnets around the ring magnet, the center (repel) and the outer (attract) the system is balanced. If this system is pulled to the side from the center point, it will want to rotate, but it's the direction it rotates that is important and it's not in the direction one might think.
One might think that the outer attracting magnet would rotate to get closer to the ring magnet but in fact the pulling vector to the center is much stronger, and as the ring magnet increases in diameter the desire for the attracting cylinder to rotate becomes less and the pull to the center becomes greater.
It's just an idea, but when one thinks of it as using springs and rollers to achieve the same process, it appears more impossible.  Gravity?

Can you draw the lines of force for me? I don't understand why it would rotate.

quick update on this idea  :)

two cylinders helping each other to get through sticky point...

and a new drawing with closed system and numbered parts...

hope i will get 3D printer soon and try to make one and test it 8)

Hi together,

looks nice. Havn't seen like this before. I also do some research on magnet motors/gernerators. Some days ago i posted a new topic but it still needs to apply by an moderator :/ so it hangs somewhere in the nirvana :)

I am not going to write all the text again, but check this link:

@rstergar:

That's looking good!

Please keep us posted as to your progress and experiments. I'd like to hear what does work as well as what doesn't.

Looks similar to what I built,, you are spinning the other parts :)

hey very cool.

this is similar to an idea i've been preparing,
though yours is not allowing the trajectory rotors magnet(s), to be able to pass 45degree angled stator magnet array(s),
and maybe some needed field dampeners.

though i had to comment now when i saw what your working on because its similar.

the idea is trying to use the exact same principles as a linear permanent magnet rail gun.
some of those do work well in their linear mode.

keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

one other thing i just noticed, is that you might be using steel that your stator magnets are fixed onto,
theres a good chance it could produce better results using something non conductive rather than steel.
any metals will cause some sort of effect,
if they are to be used for any area of the rotation area where magnets might produce fields.
this too is another reason why it might not run on its own.

also wondering if there is no need for more than 2 stator rails
(angled at 45 degree angles according to the direction of the rotor magnet(s) travel like a railgun),
rather than the 5 that you have used, in order to prevent overlapping fields.

there is also the option to stack these wheels in rows as one machine.

and also have more than one rotor stator array set
if more are embedded into the wheel itself at different incriments of the radius
as it reaches towards the center of the wheel(s). provided there is no detrimental field overlap occuring.

overlapping fields can be adjusted with enough distance,
and or use of dampening insulators, shape of magnet, and strength of magnet.

i'm no expert on building one of these, and who is really? until something gets built that actually works using just magnets.
its good though, the open source approach.

result: not working...

sticky point is to strong...
