Large-diameter window motor structure
« on: April 21, 2015, 05:10:24 AM »

Hi everyone:
This is just one idea,
Performance window motor is very superior,If will window motor diameter increases,Rotor diameter increases,Can make driving less power,And large-diameter rotors,Since the flywheel effect can give good inertia,Can better improve window motor efficiency.

A magnet which is all South, or a magnet which is all North, does not exist. This would be a monopol, which has not been discovered yet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_monopole

" --- Magnetism in bar magnets and electromagnets does not arise from magnetic monopoles, and in fact there is no conclusive experimental evidence that magnetic monopoles exist at all in the universe.    --- "

In your drawings each magnet should have a North and a South pole. And the coil should be near the North or the South pole of a bar magnet, not near both poles at the same time.

Greetings, Conrad

The coil and magnet position and orientation are correct. This is the most efficient way to build a window motor. Although depicted wrong, that magnet orientation is quite possable. You would need long bar magnets that join via a steel bearing housing in the center of the rotor.

In the picture with the coil, The left is seeing a south pole , the right is seeing north.
Would it not be better for the coil to see the same pole on the front of the rotor (the side we can see) and the opposite pole on the back (the side we don't see)?
To me that would just cause cancelation .

The configuration shown would be possible assuming each magnet on the circumference is a seperate magnet from the one closest to it on the face of the rotor. They would repel each other (same poles) so they would need to be secured to overcome that.

NTesla, I agree, but you can't have 2 poles passing a strand of wire at the same time.
IMHO that will cancel.??
I seen a similar build ,but it still has loses.

Yes you can,as one poll is passing in one direction, and the opposite poll is passing in the opposite direction. The coil will produce a north pole on one side, and a south poll on the other. So either in attraction mode or repulsion mode, the motor will work.

Hi Tinman, But it supposed to be a generator not a motor.
To generate a coil should see one magnetic pole on say the left side , and the opposite pole on the other side. right?
That pic would work for motoring , but not generating.
No matter how that is arranged it will still suffer the effect of drag.
Use the drag to help the drive??
Drag is just the opposite of drive?
Can the lenz effect be used to help the drive?

I like it.  If you have ever seen an automotive cooling fan pancake motor internals, the armature is coreless. And the magnet which is a ring mag like what you see in a speaker, but alternately magnetized N and S, about 6 sections if  remember.

The rotor disk is just wire encapsulated in a hard plastic about 1/8 thick, probably high temp also. One good reason to do it this way is the rotor has very minimal weight mass. So it can help with efficiency where if the rotor were to accelerate quickly, there isnt much power spent moving that additional weight and speed changes like acceleration can happen much quicker.

With your design, make the magnet holder structure light weight, unless some flywheel effect is desired.

Now make a total of 9 windings around the rotor like you have shown. Then fire 3 at a time, then the next 3, then the next 3 then back to the first 3 and use hall sensors to detect magnet position to fire coils in succession to make the rotor go round.

Your windings could also zig zag around the rotor rather than crossing all the way over to the other ridge of the rotor.  Like where the wire is on the side of your rotor heading inward to the other side, make a 90 deg turn then another 90 at the next mag with wire going outward again, etc etc.  Might use less wire zig zaggin, less resistance total. ;)

Ive been pondering hub motors for an ev project similar to what we are talking about hear. Lot of work involved.  I like the magnet arrangement. Outer edge and sides. ;) ;)

;)

Nice.  Mine has normal cylinder commutator. Mine also is hard to see all the windings due to plastic encasement. Have pics. Posted here also somewhere.  My first Ebike brushed motor has radial commutator like your motor. These things are powerful pancakes. ;)

My brushes are also not 180 deg from each other.  That was key to figuring the winding scheme.

The windings starting at 1 brush series connects to other windings around the rotor a few times before it connects to the other brush.

These are probably the closest thing to a Homopolar gen/motor and avoiding the problem of very low V and high amps. Just like any other motor with more than 1 winding/HP disk.  ;)   Err, half a turn winding?  ;D

Ill see if I can find those pics.  Fascinating little motors. ;)

Tk. What is that, 5 N and 5 S on that mag?  Just looked at mine here. 6 sections 3 N and 3 S.
