Plasma Discharge to Make Water Safe
« on: January 25, 2015, 09:41:23 PM »
“Heating the vapor until it becomes plasma. In this state, the molecules become highly reactive. I tell my students that we create lightning in liquids. This conversion happens in a plasma reactor that generates an electrical field so powerful that  within minutes  it can purify several gallons of drinking water."

Mark:

Does this require a huge amount of energy to accomplish?  If not, this could be a great way to provide folks with clean drinking water that do not have access to it now.  I wonder how this compare to UV light as far as energy required vs purity of the water?

Bill

PS  I just read the article and it clearly says that this requires less energy than other methods as they are not heating the water.  Very ingenious.

Hi Bill
I am not sure but all indicators it does require less energy.
Hopefully I can find some more research into this area.
In many countries the energy used to purify water or make drinking water is astronomical
I also hate chlorine lol

This new development may already be obsolete, it seems.
