Chaos 66

Greetings all

Here is a video of an older wheel that I posted on youtube a while back and I added 2 chaos pendulums to get some crazy actions. Enjoy and see if there is anything you might be able to capitalize on from it's effect.

Greetings All

For more enjoyment.

Here is a photo video of my real work that I do for a living. Also is some fantastic music by (c) Desert Wind Music by Alan Scott Bachman,
1992 "Dessert Dream"

I think if you make the oscillating pendulums to hit the outer edge of a bigger wheel at some point tangential to the wheel,  you have a chance of making the rotation of wheel perpetual !  If you use a lighter spoke wheel (bicycle wheel),  you may get better result.   As we know the force required to rotate a larger diameter wheel is very less due to mechanical advantage.

I think this design resembles Bessler's impact wheel ?

A correction on name of the music. Desert Dream is the correct spelling. I must of been hungry when I typed it as Dessert dream, LOL.

That has been a consideration and is an interesting suggestion to try. It will be a simple addition.  Instead of a rim wheel, I would just add stoppers how an outer wheel rim will effect it. But there is another possible problem from stopping the pendulums by causing a back torque that may kill the fun in it. That is the reason I have not done it up to now.

pequaide from Bessler wheel posted this on my string over there.

What is interesting is that the smaller pendulum mass can absorb all the motion of the system, and then give that same motion back. I think the rate of the slowing is consistent for a three bearing system, added to the air resistance for rapidly moving objects.

When a smaller object gives its motion to a larger object it conserves mv. The reverse is when a large mass gives its motion to a small mass. If the reverse conserves mv², then there is a problem.  Because 4 units of velocity would only get 2 back; if the pendulum had ¼ the total mass. If one pendulum bob had a mass of 1/10 the total mass then 10 units of velocity would only get 3.16 back. It seems apparent that the pendulum bob is capable of giving its motion to the larger mass and then gets it back from the disk and other bob. It transfers the same quantity in both direction. If the larger masses in motion only gave back 40% of the original motion to the smaller mass, then the chaotic motion would stop almost immediately.

Here is an easy alteration: Place one of the bearings in the up position, with the ridged pendulum to the right. Place the other ridged pendulum to the left of the bearing that is in the down position. While maintaining these positions accelerate the system counter clockwise and release the pendulums simultaneously. The pendulums should absorb the motion of the disk almost immediately.

Direction has no significance. Pendulums change direction without loss of motion.

Position has no significance: if one bob is down then the other bob is equally up. The center of mass remains the same.

Potential energy can be avoided by doing the experiment in a horizontal plane. But then you lose the chaos.

Some complain about closing the loop? You disconnect the bob when it has high energy and let it fly up. Then, at the high point, attach it to an Atwood's.

I found it very interesting.
