Is this Magnetic Gate better than Howard Johnson's??
« on: September 16, 2013, 11:59:09 PM »
Hello Everyone

I noticed someone posted a video of a new "magnetic gate" design and claimed it to be better than Howard Johnson's:

Can anyone comment on the gate shown in the video?

Is it worth attempting to make a Permanent Magnet motor design based on this gate? Or, will it fail like most others, due to its "sticky point?

Thanks everyone in advance.

It will fail. The moving magnet always requires more energy to enter the gate than it has when it exits the gate.

I tested a lot of different designs and this summarizes my conclusions.

I think the gate in video is better because it is simpler (less magnets) and works better (less pull on magnet exiting gate).
