Electret - lost secret?
« on: September 01, 2013, 03:04:12 PM »
Hi guys.
I just wonder if anybody has an experience with the "Electret". It is quite amazing material with its properties. I do some experiments with this thing myself and my target is to boost its effect and to apply it to some suitable  power devices.

what i want to know is if we can use an electret to electrolyse water.theoreticly if we plunge an electret of stength of say 5volts into water some splitting should take place, hydrogen forming on one side, oxygen on the other.

The "Electret" I did is not so strong (yet). I make it of blue wax I use at CNC machine shop for rapid prototyping.
I found some interesting note about the "Electret " made of coax-cable, capable of serious voltage.  I am not sure if this is not just a HOAX but with respect what I can see on my small prototypes a would believe we might get at least some result. Two days ago I tried to make it but I overheated the coax-cable and it short cut :( Need to buy new one next week :)
Here is the picture I found:

John:

In case you did not know this...there is a page of topics dealing with this device, as well as related devices located here:

http://www.overunity.com/captret-effect/#.UiPW4H80_fc

Electrets and captrets are discussed.

If you already knew this then, sorry.
