Urine powered generator from Africa
« on: November 16, 2012, 02:07:02 AM »
Hi All,
here is a new system designed by 3 schoolgirls from Africa with the help of their teacher to
get an electrical  generator system running on just ONLY Urine !

They tell you in this article,

http://makerfaireafrica.com/2012/11/06/a-urine-powered-generator/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qepm9JV2rtE

that they used electrolysis to split Urine ( pee ) into hydrogen and
clear it up via a liquid borax solution and then run a generator to produce the electricity to
run the electrolysis...

So it seems this is a selfrunning system only using up the pee !!!

I just have googled for other pee electrolysis processes and I found this here:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/07/28/Your-Car-and-Home-Could-Soon-Be-Powered-By-Your-Urine.aspx

Urine-powered cars, homes and personal electronic devices could be available in six months. Using a nickel-based electrode, scientists can create large amounts of cheap hydrogen from urine that could be burned or used in fuel cells. One cow can provide enough energy to supply hot water for 19 houses.
One molecule of urea, a major component of urine, contains four atoms of hydrogen bonded to two atoms of nitrogen. If you place a special nickel electrode into a pool of urine and apply an electrical current, hydrogen gas is released.
A urine-powered vehicle could theoretically travel 90 miles per gallon.
Using urine as a source of fuel may sound like a bit of a stretch, but it’s actually quite ingenious.

It’s based on the use of hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe. <blockquote>Hydrogen has been called “a renewable, versatile, simple sustainable domestic energy” because it can be produced from tap water to generate power for homes and cars.
However, one of the hurdles facing this alternative fuel source is that hydrogen gas requires high pressure and low temperatures to be stored. It becomes somewhat easier to store when it’s binded to oxygen to create water, but even then it still requires large amounts of electricity to be released.
The Ohio University scientists who developed the urine technology found that attaching hydrogen to nitrogen in urine allowed it to be stored without the strict requirements of ordinary hydrogen, and allowed it to be released with less electricity (0.037 volts versus 1.23 volts needed for water).

======================

So it is very interesting that you can already split urea at 37 millivolts...

No wonder this urine splitting could be made so efficient in an electroylsis cell !

You just need so much less power for splitting pee than water...
I will try it soon.

Regards, Stefan.

If anybody finds a real video of it,
please post this.

Many thanks.

Is there any one know if the voltage applied to the electrolysis of pure water is proportional to the gas produced or is it non linear?

Urea is a fertalizer sold in a few different forms. In bulk it is very cheap.http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/urea-crystals.html
If ordinary water can be recombined with it then it's viable. Just keep in mind it is also a component of gun powder so you'll most likely get yourself put on a list if you buy it in quantity. I read an artical about the old western pioneers a long time ago and wondered how they managed to cart enough gun powder to make the trip and sustain themselves for years with out regular shipments of ammo and shot to hunt with. Turns out making powder is actually easy and can be done with stuff you find along the way in nature. I never would have thought of it as an electrolite. Now you have me thinking about its possible uses in batteries, capicitors, solar cells. Ahhh it's gonna be a pissy day. Thanks

Why they have a green gas bottle !?
Do you know that generator can be run with propane or butane ?
I'm skeptic here, the power can be from the gas inside the bottle...

The green bottle is a r22 refrigderant bottle most likely to hold or store a portion of gas to off set demand or possibly it's a scam and they pumped propane into it. I would like to think thats not the case. I have been searching for a cheap source of nickle for the last year to make edison batteries. If I ever find a source I would like to check out the scheme just to see.

I am sorry to rain on your parade but this is just another Nigerian scam. The green bottle is not for filtration. It contains the LP that runs the generator. How do I know? I experimented with urea electrolysis when it first made a splash with the release of a paper published by the Royal Society of Chemistry (rsc.org) authored by Bryan K. Boggs, Rebecca L. King and Gerardine G. Botte. I paid 50 pounds for it!

Does the urea break down at low voltage? Yes. Is the process fast enough to produce enough HOD to run a motor? Sadly, no. Not even close. You would have to run the apparatus for many hours to create enough compressed hydrogen to run an engine only a few minutes. And it STINKS! Not only humane urine but also urea found as fertilizer. Also note the yellow bubbler. Is this the urine? If that's true, this is the last stage before the motor. What's in the electrolyzer? Next you will see this group seeking gullible "investors" for their project. Then they will disappear.

Sorry folks. No sale.

Z

Steve Rejuso used tubig powered machine   / street led lights powered by just a spray from anything like urine soy sauce and rain water
He accidentally discovered this when his son pee on 2 metal plates that registered voltage on the meter  .. He has migrated to Singapoere and has pulled all his videos when he was hired as a consultant
inManila   state prison   they used pee to power up the alarm system
In the 1970s  a Japanese company collected urine in our school to use for medicine
Happy New Year  to all

Oh just to add one unforgettable HHO experience in 1985
Mr. Dingel poured Coke in the carbureteur and asked me what I smelled in the exhaust pipe
WELL    ITS DEFINITELY COKE
Then he offered me bread made from water lilies  .... I asked him jokingly if it came from the funeral parlor   ...... LOL

Long time back I had read somewhere that  the quantity of methane released during one gas (fart) of a goat is enough to run a lorry to a distance of       40 Kms.  But how will you tap this gas?   Connect a suction pipe to its ass?

Have ever made some physics!

A GPL car use around 10 litres of liquid gas for 100km, means 2,5 m3 of gaz. So for 40 km : 1 m3, and it's not a lorry...

What a crazy time we are to accept anything without checking about :(

The jock was not about a possibility of "suction system" but on the orders of magnitudes not comprehended, not conceptualized!

http://science.howstuffworks.com/zoology/mammals/methane-cow.htm
"Some experts say 100 liters to 200 liters a day (or about 26 gallons to about 53 gallons), while others say it's up to 500 liters (about 132 gallons) a day. In any case, that's a lot of methane, an amount comparable to the pollution produced by a car in a day."

so, even with the best estimations, still 5 times tow little quantity of gas and 25 times in the "worse", and just for a car, not for a truck ...

Any way, just to notice that organic methane doesn't add any CO2 to atmospheres cause it's a closed cycle with grass CO2 caching...

Thanks for the reference.
