Itsu:   The good news is that your shipment of parts just arrive at my door.
Very much appreciated. It came very well packaged, and in perfect shape.
Now, back to this project.   Where was I... seams like a year went by, instead of a month or so.

im building soon half the stuff has arrived. Going to be using an arduino driving a 30Mhz DDS. So Tesla RF, phase control, push pull etc will all be in perfect sync. No wobbly katchers.

Ohh so exciting!

I have arduino nano driving my push pull with fet drivers and have microsecond control of pulse width , using the internal timer to trigger the push pull. using Port B , and Port D command for faster control. max speed seems to be about 35 microseconds to do both push pull. I was using an external generator to signal the katcher that works and lights florescent bulbs above 200 khz. As far as the push pull it works better to do a push pull about every 100 microseconds.  pulse width works best at about 26 microseconds. The interesting thing tonight was the florescent bulb i have laying on my  top load was staying lit when i shut off the generator which like i said is being used to trigger the nano second pulse for the katcher!! and i was not  powering the push pull yoke only power is to the tesla(katcher) primary. After installing the capacitor i used before for best resonance the strangeness of the tesla self triggering itself started happening i could even pull out the generator input cord and lay it over the grenade to stabilize itself running along at some ridiculous high frequency i didn't measure yet but in the mhz. The watt meter was reading 41 watt input it idles around at 37 watt unloaded. No over unity just some strange self triggering in resonance i bet. So this arrangement can self trigger itself no need to even have a generated signal for the katcher except to jump start it, jusl lay the input wire near the topload and let it ring. Keep in mind you have to isolate the computer once arduino program loads or the katche/tesla frequecy works its way back into your computer and goofs with your usb devices making you restart your computer. Let it power down 10 seconds then plug into computer to update your program then pull usb back out to test again. Little bit of a hassle, but it appears arduino is capable and i have not killed it yet.

Does the florescent bulb stays on when you switch off power?  If it does, two things need to be checked:
1) The frequency. Is there any radio station around running on that frequency or its harmonics?
2) The NMR side effect. Beta/Gamma emissions need to be checked for presence by radiation meter.

In overall, nice progress! :) Also Arduino have to be inside metal box which is grounded to be safe on not ruining microcontroller near Tesla coil.

Cheers!

2 things : first:  The florescent bulb laying there is staying on with nothing triggering the nano second pulse circuit, (once jump started with generator signal) it starts to feedback on itself. but the power supply is still on and set to 30volt and showing approx .07 amp when running. i just happened to notice that it can trigger itself much like an amplifier getting feedback thru a microphone except there is no microphone the wires are picking up the signals, if the light begins to dim or flicker, i sometimes just bump the input wire of the nanosecond circuit to ground. if i just gently lay the input wire over the grenade its stable. Only circuit needed is the nano second circuit and Drive fet nothing more. (arduino is basically off because its only driving the push pull and the yoke power supply is disconnected right now)

2nd thing: The ardruino seems to work fine and is in a plastic box only 2 feet from the topload as long as i keep it isolated from my computer. but it only drives the push pull and no power to the push pull transformer is even needed for the self triggering of the katcher mentioned above. i am going to try to measure the self triggering frequency i have only analog scope and cant directly connect due to HV. I dont believe the arduino is needed for the self triggering thing,  because its running around the 20khz range and not even connected to the katcher circuit only the push pull.

So its just feedback i recon just interesting how it can trigger itself like that, at least i know its running at the frequecy it wants and not the one i pick.

Not a good idea for it to be running on random feedback as it will totally negate what your doing with the arduino controlled system. Sounds like you need to have a clean up of any long wires and make sure the fet gates are tied down properly and supply lines are well decoupled using plenty of caps and RF chokes.

I just got my arduino DDS working i somehow managed to blow up the LCD and had to salavage another.  But it works great i can tune from 100Khz to 30Mhz and step down increments  to 1 HZ for the katcher circuit. BUT im not going to actually use a kacher its going to be a Class E digital RF amp and should push about 30 Watts RMS at 24v using IRF640's @ 1Mhz. With modulation should hit 90 Watts Peak.

So next thing to start on is the push pull circuit which is also extremely accurate clock driven with pulse width etc down to 0.1% steps.

Hi Chet, Good to see you too!  I deleted the pics for now not important. Just finished the basis of the push pull board. I found out a TL494 can be externally clocked as the on board oscillator is pretty crap. So now it will work from 1Hz to 100Khz and step the duty cycle from 1% to 99% so pretty pleased with that. I decided the pulse uS delay for Tesla bursts is best done with basic RC delay logic as Arduino not fast nor reliable eneough to work dealing with microseconds as well as dealing with any other loops running.  Just about to start on the FET o/p board which should be easy now most of the logic sorted out.

Hi bolt!

I wonder if you have a web page that you post your schematics and device modifications? It could save a lot of time from other people...

Buying a TL494 board is one thing, but modifying one might need good instructions. Also these threads are not a good way of keeping track of these modifications

I have clocked an Arduino Uno into the 100nS range and it was solid. Not to mention the fact that we can adjust the offset and frequency between multiple channels on the fly. The problem I see is that the good old days were never that good and spending endless hours under the fog of a soldering iron for a decade or so was not all that productive. With a PLC we can throw together a multi-channel, multi-frequency oscillator with any offset or timing function we want. It is so damn easy it boggles the mind compared to the fiasco of breadboarding and soldering all that crap together which never really worked all that well anyways.

Do you know what is brilliant?, the fact that with something as simple as a $10 Arduino we are in control... think about it. If I actually wanted to use that grey matter between my ears I would let a computer do all the hard work. I would set up my circuit then program a sweep function of one frequency relative to another as a variable offset/variable frequency then log the output. Follow my logic?, we are looking for something and you can waste hundreds of hours of your time trying to manually change the variables or have a computer change the variables and tell you what works. This is the fundamental premise of why computers were invented to do all the heavy lifting and number crunching for us.

Why in gods name you people feel so compelled to do everything the hard way and waste your time is beyond me. Set up a test circuit, program your micro-computer to sweep through as many variables as possible, log the inputs vs output and it will basically tell you where all the sweet spots are. I built and programmed a circuit using an Arduino Uno with a piezo beeper in about 6 hours to tell me when the COP is greater than 1 and the output has exceeded the input. It just scans through all the possible variables and when the COP>1... it beeps. So our computer looks at the data and and which variables worked and gives us the answer... not that difficult.

In my opinion we have to move past the average dark ages thinking and embrace the future. We have tools at our disposal and access to knowledge like no other time in history... use them.
