Its strange that i see your square waves are around 50V amplitude (1 div. @ 50V/Div.) while running on 12V input.

I expect to see some 24V square wave amplitude, not 50V, so something is not right there.
Could you double check your scope setting?

   Itsu:
   The scope volts/div setting is at 50v per/div.  So it's about 50 to 60 volt, is what I read on it.
If I reduce the duty cycle, the voltage spike goes up. The frequency should be close to the best resonance frequency.
   Once the snubbers are finished, I'll be able to tune the whole device better.

  I'll know more about it later tonight. But, I would like to install the yoke/primary coil snubber as well.
  So, let me know more details as to how to go about doing that.

Are you sure that that blank position on your V/Div. knob really is 50V/Div.?
What happens if you switch to 20V/Div., does the signal jump to twice the number of divisions?

Anyway, about the Oleg snubber, it is what it shows on my link:
A 1K (2W) resistor from the 24V (or 12V) supply line via a series 1uF Poly cap (600V) to ground.
From the junction resistor/cap 2 diodes (UF4007 or your MUR360) to each primary (cathodes to the R/C junction).

This way a spike created by the collapsing field will partially be diverted back into your 24V supply.

See a picture of my setup below where the Oleg snubbers are visisble on the yoke/primary side.

Edit: It seems that one of our cats had a nap against the yoke lately.   They lose a lot of hair at the end of the summer, sorry about that.

got my TL494 PWM modules from ebay finally. The seller is not replying and I was wondering are these modules are made the same way?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131586554657

So could I find the schematics and connection diagrams for these somewhere else? This particular module was mentioned on this thread, so I thought you guys might have the schematics for this module.

Belfior,

i have the same module, but managed to blow it up but it was working fine untill then.

No diagram available other then the ones on that website.

I made a layout of my module after i made some modifications to operate it with variable frequency (100K trimmer instead of R6)
and variable duty cycle (100K trimmer at lower connection of (removed) R7 position) giving it a 0 to 44% duty cycle.

The backside (right to left) shows some names which corresponds the following way to what i mention on the front:

PWM2  = output 2
PWM1  = output 1
GND   = minus
VCC   = 9-25V input
RTH   = +5V ref
NC
Feed- = minus
Feed+
Pro
REM

Hope thats clear,  Regards Itsu

   Belfior:
   I think that the commercial TL494 is the best way to go, as it can take a lot of time to make a similar the circuit at home, that works as well, or cost less.
   You might try it with just the frequency trim pot, first, as the duty cycle controller doesn't help too much. Since it's already running at 45% duty cycle as it comes, I believe. And lowering the duty cycle even lower than 40%, doesn't seam to help too much.

    Itsu: Well, it's good to hear that I'm not the only one blowing these things up.  I feel better now. But, I had another Snicker Bar, just to be sure.
            I'm looking for the cap and 1k resistor for the Oleg snubber. I guess that a 1uf electrolytic cap won't do?
            So, I should disconnect the source side of my MUR3060, but leaving the drain side of it still connected, and connect that other end of those diodes to the 1k resistor, and cap, which are going to the gates?

Hi Folks,

Sorry to chime in but I can see some schematics in the ebay seller site Belfior linked to.  If you click on the right hand side arrow I circled in red in my snapshot picture below, you can see them.

    Itsu:
    I found a 1.2uf capacitor, it's one of those big black ones that come on fans and stuff. Is that close enough to 1uf?  I have no 105 (1uf) on hand, but I do have a 225 (2.2uf).

   Gyula: Thanks for the link to the TL494 schematic.

Itsu to the rescue! You are a life saver! I hope I don't blow it up... Maybe I anticipated it, because I ordered 2 ;)

Thx man! I will snatch those. I just get "please update your photobucket account to enable 3rd party hosting" so the seller keeps his images in some free account that cannot handle the downloads

Nick,

I don't know if a electrolytic cap can be used there, its all DC with the minus to ground, so i guess so, but won't recomment it.
The 1.2uF cap will work, even a 10uF cap if you have one, its not critical.

Your present MUR360's are now across the drain / source with their anodes connected to the source (ground) and the cathodes connected to the drain (so blocking the 24V), Right?

The Oleg diodes have their anodes to the drains and the cathodes to the junction 1K R and 1uF cap, so very different!!

Not sure what you mean by "which are going to the gates?", as NOTHING from the Oleg snubber goes to the gates.

Gyula,

those are not the diagrams of the presented TL494 PCB, they are some different schematics of similar circuits.
I was not able to find the exact diagram of the PCB.

Keeping my fingers crossed.  I'm pretty sure this will help you a lot
to gauge where your push/pull driver is needing attention.

I'll also swing by the postal annex and let them know their 10 business
day estimation was way off.  Maybe they will be able to run a trace
on the shipment and get someone's attention to wake up and get
this package on the move.  Can't hurt.

   Dog One:  Did you have a chance to go by the post office to see about what happened with the scope shipment.
    I still have not received it, yet. And it's getting close to being a month now since it was sent.
