Internal network setup with outside DHCP router
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:18:03 PM »
Hi all:
Now have a dual network channel MB with dual screen. Looking to use channel 1 for the dhcp to the outside world. Setup and working fine. Second channel is set to some kind of private network in the range of 169.254.X.X. I would like to set this up with an internal dhcp under winXP so that anything attached to it will only see the internal network. Have never done this kind of thing in win so need a few pointers if at possible. WIFI proved to be just a signal to all I was here. Hacked twice and one machine formatted before I caught the idiot. Shut the WIFI off.
Asus AN8 mb with 64bit amd 4000. This has two channels of gigabit lan

Any ideas?

i'd recommend Dual DHCP DNS Server
there is also Tiny DHCP Server

i'd also recommend not using the range of 169.254.X.X as that range is sort of a reserved address that machines default to when a network dhcp server can not be reached. it could make any future network troubleshooting you may have to do a bit confusing.

hope that helps get you going in the direction you want.

edit: had a second thought. if you just want a 'hidden' network disable tcp/ip for the second channel and use netbios running over ipx/spx (NPX) for your internal network. i don't think most of the script kiddie hackers even know what that is... ;)
