24-7 Xenon light Self running solar panel test
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:09:02 PM »
This idea has been around for a while on this forum and as solar panels are a genuine free energy device,I thought I would give it a go and see if I can make them self-run  ;D

All my equipment has arrived now, I have four solar panels which I will put together to make a box,I will then put one of the Xenon lights In the middle and see if I can make it self sustain.

If anyone would like to work out the mathematical theory based on my equipment it would be appreciated, and interesting to know when I'd do the test in a few days' time, as long as I get the time.
I will be using the small battery which is in very poor condition and could normally only Run the light for a few minutes at best , It is the nearest thing I have to a capacitor battery,
Yes I hate batteries in these types of experiment but if all goes well I will use capacitors later
The big battery will be used to jumpstart the system.
Okay here are some pictures of my equipment and related information

Edit.
Sorry everyone I'm having difficulty getting the pictures that everyone can see,
Something has changed I never had this problem before.

Hi I'm glad you started this thread. I've been working on the same idea since 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnC9YTXXAjs

This is a hard thing to do since the solar panels are only 20% efficient at the most. Since then i moved to using smaller light that need less power. I use a LED flash light that runs on a AAA battery and I put that on top of a 5 watt solar panel. The most I ever got from doing this was 8 volts at 45uA, but thats not enough to charge the AAA battery that powers the LED light. I have found ways to make the solar panel more efficient, you can add water to the top of the panel and it will increase the panel's output. I also Heard that the solar panel respond more to the infrared spectrum so maybe a red LED will work better? I'm thinking that making my own Solar panel will be better to use.

How much power does your light consume?

Hi ibointless2,
One of my lights consumes 35 W, I am aware of solar panel effectiveness I am hoping by using big ones I can generate more power, most people only use small ones like in this new video from Lidmotor  ;D Solar cell working off  GLOW STICK light
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iVL2MxR25o&list=UU9jbwyyAum79LXTNCgHeuFg&index=1&feature=plcp
I will not be surprised if I can make my setup self-run But in time with new technology on solar panels and more efficient lighting this must be possible.
Didn't get much time today in the workshop but did manage to assemble the solar light box,I have put Aluminum foil in the top and bottom to reflect the light better, Hopefully well get more time later in the week.

In this type of experiment one should try to concentrate all the light from the light source (bulb, LED) onto the solar cell.

In the attached drawing I try to depict this idea of "light concentration".

The light cone emitted from many LEDs spreads at about 15°. The light is then re-concentrated onto a small solar cell by help of a lens.

Of course, the LED has only a limited efficiency (converting electricity to light), the lens is not completely transparent and then the solar cell has a limited efficiency of at most 20%. The losses are great, but one can always try.

Greetings, Conrad

HI Conrad,
I had the same problem as you,Stefan did fix it this morning as you can see from the pictures I managed to post but now it seems to have gone wrong again, Hopefully Stefan can fix it again.

I don't know if lenses are going to work in my setup as I am surrounding the light with 4 big solar panels, I think the problem with LED's Is the amount of light they give off and most people seemed to struggle getting them to full intensity, anyway I look forward To seeing you're drawing when the site is working properly.

Wow! Very nice work!  :)

I like the light boxes. My experiments are a little bit more crude. I use my bath room since it has no lights source in it such as windows to do my testing in. I want to build a box for my 5 watt panels but don't have the time. I don't know if you put something reflective behind the panels? Some panels allow light to travel through them and some of the light is wasted that way so putting something reflective behind the panel might help to bonce some of the light back.

@powercat

Attached see a drawing of a modification of my idea, getting rid of the lens.

Your set up looks interesting, I am looking forward to hear your results. An experiment is much better than any theoretical calculation. In theory it should not work, but we will see.

The solar panels will be useful anyway.

Greetings, Conrad
