hydroxy fuel OU ?
« on: June 29, 2006, 07:52:37 AM »
Hi All-

Wonder if this idea below has any merit?
When using hydroxy gas, it supposedly has a number of unusual properties. One of which is while burning in the air a hydroxy flame is quite cool and you can even run your hand through it without getting burnt, but will heat up different materials to different temperatures depending on the material itself. It can even melt tungsten apparently which is what up to 9000 degrees or something!? :o So, the temperature  depends on what material the flame is touching.
Water will break down to hydrogen and oxygen when heated somewhere around 5,000 degrees(I think, I forget the figures just now) So how about using some material that when heated with hydroxy gets to this 5000 degree mark and then you go and run water through it to produce hydrogen and oxygen?
Should be easy to figure out the energy put in to make the hydroxy flame and then the energy produced in form of hydroxy gas coming out - so much gas in and so much out.
Probably just a silly idea but it is interesting that hydroxy gas heats up different materials to different temperatures. Perhaps this nifty little feature could be of use in our pursuit of OU.

Hi-

phil-uk, yes I saw that article before. These hydroxy gas machines for metal working are quite common now and are manufatured in many parts of the world. I think most of them use common electrolysis to produce the gas. Good to see they're becoming more popular. They are cleaner and safer to use than oxy/acetylene torches. I don't know how efficient they are however.

thanks lancaIV - wow! nice machine this multipaz. I wonder how much energy(electricity) it consumes to produce its flame. Nearly worth the $2000 price just to take it apart just to see how it works.

up to 2,8KW,how explained !

The question is:the electricity input more a part of the inner
                      water energy:total output ?
