Magnetic vortex, eddy heating.

Hi All,

This was inspired from MagnetFlippers channel on the magnetic vortex. I built a little model and wanted to see if the spin could setup eddy currents in an aluminum dish for heating.

Hi Chet,

Eddy current heating is the same as induction heaters. Induction heaters, heat metal by high frequency 5khz - 480khz. You can also make magnetic heaters by spinning magnets near copper or aluminum plates it's not very efficient though, about 16% or something. Usually the drive motor gets hotter faster than the plate your trying to heat. :)

A quick one is get a diametric magnet on a Dremel 20krpm and just run it inside a copper pipe. The motor will whine but I've been able to get the end of the pipes temperature up over 200F pretty quick.

The idea behind this test was to see if the magnetic field was actually spinning externally to the magnet. If it wasn't spinning then I shouldn't be able to get heat but as you can see it starts to spin pretty quick and the temp slowly rises. The magnet never physically moves only the water and changing magnetic field. The bubbles that you keep hearing pop is HHO which gets swirled to the center. I put a little cap over the center to capture it and it popped when lit. ELF frequencies are good, between 5-8hz I get a lot of bubble generation.

Hi CherryMan,

I just tried your test idea with the magnet shielded inside a pill bottle sitting on the bottom of the aluminum bowl full of water.

With one lead near the center of the magnet and one on the side, I fed in multiple frequencies and observed no spin or heating.

The next test I tried one lead on the magnet still in pill bottle and one lead attached to aluminum bowl. No spin or heating observed.

Another test I did to see if it's just a B-field interaction, was stick a 8Awg piece of wire as one of the leads and the other lead hooked to bowl. With some dust on the surface I wasn't able to see any spin around the wire even when cranking the power up and tripping the 15amp resettable fuse. It did bubble hydrogen but no spin.

As for electrolysis I'm not certain. But it does seem that water with baking soda is one required medium to obtain or at least see the spin with the magnet.

Spinning magnets at copper plate not 16% !!!!
