The Quest for knowledge
« on: September 16, 2011, 05:50:50 AM »
The more you learn, the more you realize how little you know. A few hundred years from now, people will think of us as primitive.
We do not know what gravity is. We don't know what magnetic force is either. We have names to describe what these things do, and we can measure lots of stuff. But actually knowing? Nope. Just theories.

We are made of atoms too tiny to really examine. A scanning tunneling electron microscope shows fuzzy little bumps. If the nucleus of a hydrogen atom was the size of a period  .   then the electron would be at least 50 meters away. So we are mostly not even here. According to the current theory anyway. We have so much to learn.
How can atoms get together and form a thinking living being? Nobody knows.
What is a line of force and how can it act on a body at a distance? How can I cause my finger to move and type these words?
We don't know, Yet.
I see "educated" people on here cutting down the hard work of others. They themselves being "classically educated" in physics or whatever, have never learned from the history of science, where new ideas are almost always met with scorn.
Then, believe it or not, I see people actually helping others. Keeping an open mind. Lending encouragement. Lending courage.

So someday soon, the science books will get new chapters. A new herd of "strictly by the book" experts will spout verbatum from those pages, that the free thinking knowledge seekers are wasting their time trying to break those laws. I hope nobody believes them. I hope someone helps instead of hinders. Because that is how we really learn. We are still just beginning to understand.

You exist.  Therefore anything is possible.
