Where should I be looking if I want to buy my PMA for a VAWT???
« on: December 09, 2010, 02:20:33 AM »
I have been looking everywhere, and it would seem that I cannot just buy the PMA alone and build around it. Does anyone know where I could get these from?

There should be some threads on this board of people who have made their own.  Also, there is one called "Blue (something)", I cant remember off hand the name of it.  It is kind of pricey (300 or so).  You could use an alternator out of a junkyard car and do a little modding.

here's at you

check the specs for these out i think you will find them to be acceptable and low rpm and they come with a 20 year warranty and can be grid tie or charge control type for off the grid systems we are building low velocity windmills and recomend these for or units

Yes, as did I. However other than the manufacturer supply companies, and the people selling whole units, I had not come across anyone selling actual PMG units by the piece. Unless of course I want to pay 5000 for a whole Vawt system and scalp the pmg out of it.....

DO NOT BUY PMG at GINLONG (Chinese Garbage) see Youtube below:
Ginlong PMA The truth behind the REAL world output bs

BUY a DELTA made in USA (the BEST for Wind)

Hope this will be any help.

If you're looking for the highest quality low wind PMA available you have found it.
See below: Legend series are a larger, more robust PMA hand wound low RPM PMA.

hi startup

i have done allot of generator testing and i am not into getting into any contests of words here over the ginlong generators verses gm pma's but i would give you a few points to consider as to the video posted about the ginlong being so inferior.
for the most part i will deal with the straight physics of the fields that will work within the two generators lets look at the magnetic rotor for starts the ginlong uses a non magnetic backing for the magnets spaced away from the shaft the gm uses the same pole pieces and buts the magnets around and along a steel shaft this steel going from pole set to pole set diminishes the field strength at the poles and the reaction of the field against the coils will force the field from the coils back toward the rotor center costing power to drive it and effency when in operation.
the amount of steel backing in the rotor helps to draw the field through the coil and steel will only hold so much field per unit of volume and as we are not talking Permalloy or another exotic material this lack of steel at the back side of the coils is a definite design flaw on the part of the gm pma promoter.
all in all it is a good salesmans pitch for a piece of garbage as he will not offer a testable dynamo graph of the power output curve which ginlong does and which i have tested has he done the same ?  NO he hasn't.
the bottom line is sometimes you get what you pay for or you just get ripped off.

Hi,

www.windbluepower.com

They sell PMA's in four power ratings for wind to hydro. These are the PMA's I recommended for use in my systems.

They are built on Delco 10si or 12si car alternator bodies and so spare parts are available all over the USA.

They are also cheap! but very good quality. $250 currently up from $199 a year or so ago. Cheapest I could ever find.

Every year they normally run a Christmas special with special discounts so this is the time to buy if you want one. this years has not started yet but may do soon. Ask them :)

You can buy the rotors and stators separately also as well as all the bits for wind generation.

If you give them a ring they might also custom wind an alternator for you. Worth asking!

Very good company at very good prices.

Hope that helps :)

I was playing with the idea of getting a Manta PMG to play with at one time.  The price put me off - £400-ish in the UK!  It's seems a real beastie though - it can generate over 30amps when shorted just with a very strenuous hand-turn, whereas the specs for "DC-540 PMA" from 'Wind Blue Power', linked to above, can only manage a paltry 15amps at 1000-2000 rpms!

i had looked at the manta it is a fine generator but here in alaska i was not inclined to the open design any water getting in and freezing would be a serious problem and taking down a windmill at 30 below zero would be no fun at all so the ginlong seemed the better choice for our location but if this is not a problem then i would deffinately use the manta as a substitute.

when i was looking into the ginlong i remember reading that british subjects get some form of rebate from the government for using the ginlong generators you may want to check into this as it could effect your choice as well.

Did you actually get a Ginlong?  If so, how do they stand up to the claims of 7-times more power-out?  I watched a few of the video's 'debunking' them and while it was nice to get a look inside one, I couldn't understand why the debunkers didn't just spin one up with a drill or something and 'prove' the power-out was nothing like was claimed - rather than all the rhetoric about weight and visual comparasions.

I bet they didn't do that 'cos even though it might have shown that the makers were fibbing, it would also have shown that the ginlongs performed considerably better!
