so groundloop ....  you are saying i will have 1/6 of 3000 farads per 16.2vdc cap bank .?

if that is the case i will have 500 farads @16.2vdc  wich is truly unimportant to me as the way this unit operates ..  it is the continous amp draw that is of intrest !

I do not know how many series capacitors you have but
see the attached pdf document.

6 pcs. 3000 Farad 2,7 Volt in series = 500 Farad, 16,2 Volt.

Maybe I am wrong!

The voltage on a battery is augmented when the batteries are in series.
But I had understood that the capacitors are different and to augment the voltage the capacitors must be in parallel.

Just for not to have an issue with this I will remove the drawing.

You are right about the batteries. Put them in series and
get a higher voltage. Same goes for capacitors, the
total voltage the capacitors can handle is Cvolt + Cvolt.
But the capacitance is lower, 1 / Ctotal = 1/C1....1/Cn.
So if you put two 100uF 16 Volt capacitors is series then
you get Ctotal = 1 / (1 / 100 + 1 / 100) = 1 / 0,02 = 50uF.
The voltage is V1 + V2 = 16 + 16 = 32 Volt.

I think that's how I remember learning it also - what GL said. 
   So osiris I'm not sure I understand exactly how or what you are doing with this setup but it sounds like you may be switching some very high current.  If that's correct what will you be using for the actual switching where contact is made and broken with that much current? 
    Nice battery finds - wish I had that much battery power here but can't afford that kind.  Still looking for a deal on a forklift battery though...

The document you posted says that I am wrong.

Looking for the information I found this from goldmine that corroborates your words.
The two capacitors in series add the voltage but cut the capacitance in half.
The two capacitors in parallel add the capacitance and the voltage stays the same.

The problem seems to be a misunderstanding about the meaning of the voltage rating of a capacitor. It's NOT like a battery's rating !!

The voltage rating of a cap is the maximum safe voltage you can put on the cap without taking the chance of "puncturing" or shorting the dielectric between the capacitor's electrodes.

So putting caps in series logically adds together their voltage ratings--just like stacking a bunch of insulators adds up the total voltage that can be stood off by the stack.

The ENERGY on a capacitor is proportional to the SQUARE of the voltage that the cap is charged to, but is only linearly proportional to the capacitance. Energy (in Joules) = (C*V*V)/2, with capacitance in Farads and volts in volts. The power able to be delivered by a capacitor depends on how fast the charge energy can be released into an external circuit and is complicated.

The capacitance of a cap can be considered a constant. The energy on the cap is proportional to the square of the voltage and can be thought of as the energy it takes to stuff a bunch of mutually-repelling charge carriers into a tiny space--the more charge, the greater the energy required, and the more voltage (pressure!). The tighter the space, the more energy required...or the more the charge, the more energy required....and so on.

Hi , first off Osiris old avatar was Innovation Station , under the Innovation Station name he has thousands of  post , maybe you will find what you need there , but i dough you will find schematics .

But i would suggest giving it some time , he hasn't build the unit yet ...

As for the actual claims he made , Innovation station is not really able to make the calculation on his own ...

Isn't that the formula for resistors?  For capacitors in series, the capacitance remains the same or is equal to the smallest value in the chain. The voltage does however increase as they are chained in series.

It's not. Nievesoliveras formula is right (1/C = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + ...). For example, for two identical capacitors in series, the capacitance is half.
