I have a bunch of dead batteries I'm saving to recycle to Walgreen's stores, so I might try and take a few apart and see what's inside.

They did make few select battery chargers that charged alkaline batteries I am near positive there is a newer one out that is relatively cheap as well...

Go ahead throw em out but if they can charge them safely in factory if you can do it in house safely as well with the proper circuits and isolated safe area I would do it I used to own one sold it on ebay never knew it... until the price went up so high for a battery charger then I did some reading and found out what it was capable of...
