Strange alien creature from Panama or just an animal ?
« on: September 20, 2009, 01:05:14 AM »
Hi,

This story is now going around the world:

The discovery of a strange creature in Cerro Azul has aroused controversy among the people, for while some say it may be a being from another planet, others simply believe that is an animal.

Four teenagers aged between 14 and 16 years, met him at the Jet Blue Hill, on Saturday, while having fun in the place.

According to one of them told the program code 4, they suddenly saw the creature emerging from a cave located behind the water jet. At her appearance and it began to climb over the rocks to one of them panicked and began to thrash him and throw sticks, getting killed, after which they threw into the water and ran.

this is not  sloth.
sloths have several distinct features that are simply not present in this creature.
for instance, sloths have a protruding nose, much like primates.

this animal in the photos here more resembles a shellless turtle than a hairless sloth.

My first impression went for the sloth as well, and then the next to an albino shell-less turtle. A turtle expert should be involved in the investigation.
Of course, not the least bit of DNA was recovered at the scene? That's how it usually goes.

Poor creature. Teens having fun.

Hmm,
this sloth streches his tongue out,
but it looks different than the Panama creature:

mutated sloth, you can clearly see one of its large claws on 'its' right front leg.
possibly a genetic throw back that had a weak immune system and died.

sometimes animals are born with a disease that produces hairlessness in animals, it a rare disease.

New video of the creature:

I wonder, why they don´t show it better in the video ?

So, is it just a dead sloth ?

Tree sloths are native to that part of the world.
But:
1) The teenagers said it wasn't in a tree?  Why not?  Was it like a prehistoric giant ground sloth on a very small scale?
2) It was killed recently?  It naturally has no fur? And it's albino?  It's native to caves for many generations?  Was the cave explored for more live or fossil animals?
3) Tree sloths have curved claws to hang upside down in trees.  This animal's claws are fairly straight.  Prehistoric giant sloths could use their claws as weapons against saber-tooth cats and bears.  Same shape of claws as this animal's.
4) The head is so strange, it can't be fiction.  Normal sloths don't look like that.

What is it?  A way mutated sloth with a common ancestor that was a sloth, maybe.  Otherwise, I never saw anything like it.
Accurate DNA analysis should settle the question.

Animal cruelty perhaps? Wasn't the report that the youngsters killed the poor creature by throwing rocks at it? I could be wrong.

Dna tests should determine what it is and kids have always been cruel to certain creatures.Back in the early sixties I recall a group of kids throwing rocks at a snapping turtle in a creek.Triffid

At least I saw the video in its entirety before it was deleted.  If I didn't know better, I'd call it a conspiracy.  That critter wasn't anything normal compared to ordinary sloths.

Well. what was strange was that the story changed so much... First they told that the alien came from a cave and attacked the kids...THEN  it was told that the alien came from the water and attacked a leg of one kid.... Hmmmm probably a few kids joking with a dead sloth with whom they removed its fur and made it look this way very alien like... I always wonder with these kind of stories why there are no better pictures and videos to document it sufficiently...cause they wanna hide the truth...
