I had posted this on an obscure listing,  but I am certain anyone truly interested in converting voltage from the environment should read my recent success.  This is repeatable and based on the fore front of Graphene science.   Graphite Oxide mixed with water then coating a normal lightscribe DVD top.  Let it dry then write the label side you coated fully with full black print.  This turns the graphene oxide into graphene.  It is that simple.    Before finding the Rice University video on the above data I had success trying various non acid solutions, the only real voltage produced was minor  but to me it meant it worked.  So isn't that what a prototype is for?  Proving the idea works.  This is what I have been looking for since before I found this great forum.  Perhaps you all can accept this fact!!! IT IS SIMPLE and you can do it as well.   Comments are welcome.

Well, my duplication (not replication due to the "mystery fluid") took 3-4 days to deposit the carbon graphene layer.  It also did not work until I changed from a compact florescent to a dark blue led light for 36 hrs.  BUT then I got a 1 millivolt to 2 millivolt constant charge.  The non acid solution I found to work was two tablespoons of epsom salts.   I want tovideo tape this for the forum but do NOT wish to place it  on YouTube  (no thanks).  Though the output is small it means everything from nothing to me.   I used a carrot juice (bolthouse) bottle.  I know that size bottle vs the small output is lacking,  BUT this was after all just a prototype.   Look how large the first computers were and now look at smartphones that double at being handheld computers.

I am excited about this reactor  (really I don't even know what to call it yet).  I purchased KOH but got no reaction with using it as a solution to begin the layering of nano carbon tubes.

I sourced a lab for nano film on copper but they wanted 600+ dollars for a 2X3 inch strip.

We might very well be MUCH better off developing our own room temp. nano tubes.  Smile you all because if I can do it anyone can!

Hope,  that's impressive work.   One thing I wasn't clear about in your description involves writing in black to the DVD after putting graphite oxide mix on it.  Are you saying to use a DVD burner with labeling capability to make a solid black label on it ?  Using lightscribe ?   Any detectable amount of milliamps or microamps ?   Between what 2 points are you reading voltage?

Excellent work.  This is what some major research universities are doing.  The wavelength of the light scribe turns it into  grahphene from graphene oxide.

Well done.

If you don`t want to put the video on youtube (why not?) you can always upload it to one of the many file sharing sites like dropbox etc, or make a torrent of it.

Hello All,

There was a Youtube Video yesterday made by the two inventors.  Today it is gone, due to "copyright" infringement.  BUT... I do have a link that describes the process, step by step for anyone else interested in replicating.  Very facinating work!

Enjoy!

I take this to mean that when writing to the DVD, the video needs to be of a collection
of black frames, i.e. a "movie" made with a camcorder with the lens cap on.

Hi Hope,

Thanks for the information really cool stuff.

Hi Bruce,

Was this the video?

Paper(source: hackaday.com)
http://hackadaycom.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/laser-scribing-of-high-performance-and-flexible-graphene-based-electrochemical-capacitors.pdf
Hi DreamThinkBuild
In the video he appears to be using a special burner, with the laser emitter on top, as opposed to the standard dvd drives where the beam shoots from the bottom. ( the professor pulls the cd out of the drive with the etched surface facing up –top)

There is no mention of how many layers of the paired surfaces are used for the demo capacitor.

Lightscribe ™ shows a standard dvd burner where the laser hits from the bottom. That may cause problems with the oxide solution as it will have to come in contact with the dvd tray first and damage it.
From their website: http://www.lightscribe.com/support/index.aspx?id=1526
Click on  LS Simple Labeler Demo (2min, 2MB)

It would be interesting to find out the most cost effective/useable substrate, electrolyte, separator combination for this process.

Thanks for providing the links.
Mike

MT Keshe and many of his followers have already done this.

By the way, what was the highest voltage you can get?

(EDIT: 1 millivolt - 2 millivolt is too small. This voltage might well come from the random space charge rather than the graphene metal junction.)

(EDIT AGAIN: I think it is also important to give credit where credit is due. )

What I meant to say was with the lightscribe dvd burner you set it to make an all black label, this laser burn changes the oxide into graphene.   Ok   I will make a video on my day off (Saturday).   It is only micro volts  ( i can only imagine the is little graphene at this time deposited)   yet to me it means it does work and we all can do this.
AND
I made the soda bottle Keshe reactor and the terminals registered the millivolts.   There is a guy from downunder making a chemical reaction creating graphite oxide that is worth the watch on youtube:

How to make graphene at home by the bucketload - Part 1 - YouTube

subscribe to his channel and his second attempt is simple compared to this link.

I will make that sulfuric acid on sugar to make carbon to see it work,  the wash out is not that difficult.   Kinda looks like a 4th of July snake firework

ATTENTION:  ACIDS ARE NOT TO BE TOYED WITH,  WARE PROTECTION including eyes, hands, clothing.   USE PYREX due to the heat generated AND do this only at your OWN RISK    OUTSIDE WITH LOTS OF FRESH AIR!!!
In a lab we use a protected hooded fumes extraction chamber and thick rubber gloves and full face shield,  ...etc    Read and understand and follow all you can read online about working with strong acids   BEFORE you venture into the twilight zone and reget it.   I don't want to hear any of you getting hurt from not using extreme caution if you decide to attempt this procedure.  Buying graphite oxide may be the safest way to R&D graphene.  The reactor bottle was very safe also.  NO acid was used at all, only a weak solution of EPSOM SALTS was used and a weak blue LED light  (though i did keep a compact floresent on it for 3-4 days first b4 changing to the blue led and then I got a small voltage FINALLY!

AND yes I got a steady 1-2 millivolt charge and YES it is like the Keshe soda bottle reactor. This voltage is NOT like a capacitance spike that briefly shows on the multimeter then drops off, it is a steady voltage.  I certainly do NOT take credit for this idea,  only that solution was an unknown and I decided to make attempts with non acid elements.
I finally got a positive voltage using only epsom salts.

But what this may imply is that the Keshe reactor  (the big main one) is also a good bet for positive results.

Well i finally made that video today,  (I found my fone upload cable) you know how nature seeks to balance things.  That reaction is now not producing.  I think due to me not using that energy constantly it balanced again.   So the video only shows the device and a O millivolt reading now.   I am not bothered much over this,  I will remake the reaction and do a video immediately so you all can witness it happening.  I did show another person my reactor working so I know I am not totally nuts.  It may take a few days as before but this worked before and this time I want to start charging a cap or something to cause a load drain
maybe I will make the surface areas fully coated and larger so I can drive a LED.

That would be exciting to me and perhaps you all too.   Thanks for reading this topic     I will let you all know when it starts reacting and this time I will let it gain more nanotubes (a greater millivolt level).  Can someone tell me how to upload the failed video I made today?

Thank you,   Richard Williams

I have received some nano sized elements and will make a second bottle reactor to test these other nano's.  If these also conduct electrical activity this will be great because the materials are CHEAP to purchase.  Cheap would mean you could make the solution to make at least a thousand bottles for around 70 dollars USD.  These nano size particals are from a new type of vitamin called Q96  (don't buy anything until I see if they work)  bfn.
