Billions in Change Alternative Electric Power Solution
« on: December 14, 2015, 09:17:06 PM »
Hi everyone,

many of you may know me as an alternative energy researcher but that's only half of who I am.
Research and learning is definitely something I love to do but I also enjoy offering my time and services to organizations helping the less fortunate in 3rd world countries.
Ultimately if I was to find a device that could generate electricity at next to no cost, my desire would be to provide it to these people.

Some of you may of seen the documentary "Billions in Change" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY7f1t9y9a0
This man, Manoj became very financially successful with the marketing of an energy drink. However, instead of gorging himself in material possession like many of the rich do, Manoj's heritage has taught him good human values and to use what one needs and use the excess help those who have much less.
These teachings are my daily food and should also be the Christian way of life as this is what Jesus taught by physical example. How much are we putting into practice?
Anyways, this is not a debate but rather an introductory to what I'm doing and about to demonstrate.

Last year and this year I'm spending the Canadian winter months (6 months) in the Southern US volunteering my time at private alternative energy research locations to help their research and at the same time continue my research which is hard to do in the Canadian winter months when you don't have a home (I live in a mini RV) so I have most of my time to do research and not spending it to make a living.

Where is all this going?... well, the present location I'm volunteering was working (before I arrived) on a simpler version of what the above organization of Manoj was working on to generate power in villages of 3rd world countries.
Together we simplified it and believed it to be a simpler system and less costly alternative.
I sent it to Manoj's chef man and he didn't even bothered to reply. So, I'm sharing it here and if anyone is in a good financial situation and looking to help humanity, this device is ready to go and should cost under $100. to manufactures and each country could eventually be trained manufacture them on a grass root level to create employment to further improve their lives.

I can help get this out to the people as over the years of my travel to different countries I have established many contacts with missions helping the poor and they will be more than happy to distribute these to the needy.

Here is the first video demo of the device: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kStieYtDDS4

Please feel free to post your constructive comments.

Thanks for your interest.

Luc

I work at an auto shop only a few miles from Manoj's complex. Thanks for posting it Luc.

Nice work! Makes a lot of sense to me. Manoj most likely has a billion free energy ideas flooding his office so it won't be easy to reach him. Most ideas will also be waded through by his "people" so he may never even see this. So I wouldn't give in to easy on trying to reach him. Your device also competes with the device he is working on so his "researchers" may stop your idea before it ever gets to him. Also a cheaper alternative may not be in the cards for what Manoj has in mind.

Great work, great project. It is really ironic that we use exercise bikes that require electricity and you are building exercise bikes that provide electricity.

A person at rest presents a 40 watt light bulb to the world.

If he exerts himself he can summon up another 60 watts without too much trouble.

That wattage could be represented by riding a bicycle around 15 MPH.

That 60 watts, for one hour, represents 60 watt hours stored in standard automobile battery.

For a third world country that energy in the battery presents conventional light and working electricity when the battery is coupled to LEDs, 5 volt converter for phone/ipad charging or an inverter to generate conventional 120 volt ac.

In a non-third world situation, where obesity in youth is a concern, tying television, games etc. to a similar arrangement would lead the individual to exercise as a price to play with his/her toys.

This arrangement can get into the market well under $100.00and  using an existing bicycle and an existing battery.

Put this combination into the open market lets see what happens.

It is thumbs up product.

Good luck!

Thanks for your posts.

I will be making a new video to better demonstrate how truly practical this device is and we will compare it to the newest device the Billions in Change foundation have come up with for the Indian community.

Stay tuned

do you have a link to the Billions in change device ?

here is something which makes sense for lighting with LED's [flea power]
basically a clock mechanism .

Yes Chet,

here is a link to a India TV interview that goes over what Manoj's organization is doing and also demonstrate the latest cycling generator suggested for the Indian market that should retail for around $300.
Notice the footprint and cost.
The device we are suggesting can be folded away in a corner so the limited space they have in Indian homes can be used and the bicycle to turn the generator can be used for transportation.
This can all be done for less than $100. as we figure the actual mass manufacturing would be between $40. to $50. per unit.

Interesting how Manuj says so many times they are looking to make things simple and practical :-\

Luc,
I can't help but think of all the treadmills with DC motors that get discarded where I live and sent to dumpsites.  Perhaps an even cheaper solution for generators.
Also, do you think a bank of caps could substitute for a battery?

Looking forward to more discussions

Yes Bob, I do agree with you that there is a lot of waste in the western world.
For sure a treadmill generator would work but it would be a little overkill as it can output way more than one person can sustain the input.
This is why we have chosen a generator that can output a little more then twice what a single person can sustain for 15 minutes to one hour (depending on their level of fitness).
The other thing we are considering is to keep the weight down to a minimal so the device can easily be move when not in use so that living space is not compromised. At the same time, we use less world resources (copper, magnets and steel) by keeping the footprint small, which is something I'm having a hard time understanding why The Billions in Change Organization is going to use so much resources and footprint (space) in the name of helping the world?

As for the Capacitor bank I also agree it could be used but we need to evaluate the cost factors and availability. Lead acid batteries can be found most everywhere in the world, so that may be the way to go until super capacitors are affordable and widely available.

Thanks for sharing

Luc

@gotoluc

The last bike was just perfect. You are outputting the charge at about 2 amps into that 10 amp battery which is within the 20% charge amperage since any charge above 20% of the battery rating will be wasted.

Also, as in most commercial 12vdc/in 120vac/out inverters have a low feed battery alarm that goes off at 10 volts since they also know that any battery that has the voltage going too low will simply kill the battery overall efficiency.

I think this is the main thing to watch out for. Maybe consider putting a battery voltage alarm or switch that automatically opens the output circuit at a certain voltage level (maybe a 10 volt zener but don't know for sure), or,  maybe flicker the output as a low battery warning so users do not deplete their batteries.

I think it would be better to work on a small Tesla radiant energy system instead. One good rising air plate, one good ground plate and a small charge accumulator and a trickle battery charge circuit should do it.

Hi wattsup,

thanks for dropping in and posting your comments. Good point on the battery charging ;)

Just so you know, the connection box you see in the video demo is 12vdc only. It's not an inverter. The LED 40 watt equivalent bulbs are 12vdc and consume 4 watts each.

Thanks again for your input

Hi everyone,

here is an update video with some tweaks and a identical load test the Billions in Change organization uses on their demo device.
However, the footprint and world resources needed to make this device is probably 10% of theirs.
The cost to manufacture will be at least 3 to 4 times less as well.

That's a wonderful idea. Good job on that build. Hope you do crowd funding on that through some crowd funding site. Don't forget to give a shout out to this site for helping so it brings some traffic Stefans way as well. Try to contact the singer Akon. He's been doing a bunch of stuff recently in getting power to Africa.

Can you add an upgrade option by putting flywheels on the outside of that device for more efficiency? If the bike used has a shifting lever they should be able to get it up to speed easy with little further effort once up to speed. Just thinking out loud since I really like your idea.
