how to power a hho wet cell without battery--direct mains?
« on: November 29, 2014, 01:40:48 PM »
i dont have a battery and travel a lot--dont want to haul it about
ive run hho cells from 12v in the past--all ok
but direct mains? must admit im a bit of a nerd
how to do this without buying and hauling an electrical device (output
regulator/volt-amps controller etc)?
something the size of a cellphone charger
not after big volts but not too tiny an output

appreciate any ideas

What you are asking for is a power supply.  If you design your cell such that it works well at a particular power level:  Total plate area and plate count, and particular voltage: series plate count, then you can buy a small power supply the size of a cell phone charger to run your unit.  You can readily get little wall warts of 25W - 50W capacity and up to 48V output.

yes, a power supplier--is that what i should ask for when i go to the elec shop?

ill tell you what its for: making a portable hho cell (2 plate) with a very thin
nylon membrane dividing hydrogen from oxygen. keep the hydrogen and bubble it
into drinking water. reports of great health benefits

thanks for your help

Since you only have two plates, then you want a pretty low voltage supply, maybe 3V to 5V.  The current capability that you need depends on the size of your plates.  If you make the plates too large the power supply will go into overcurrent protection and you won't get much gas production.  5V 2.5A - 3A wall warts are very common for USB hubs.

i think we got it right there. they sound like the right outputs
plates can be small as 1inch by 2inch

thank god for techs like yourself

yes, i can do it using a power adapter

i am wondering if the power adapter is really neccessary

why cant i use direct mains? i mean, my 2 plates are quite far
apart and i can move them further apart if i need to
dont have to put in so much electrolite in case 240v will draw
too much current

why not direct mains?

I have done plenty of "mains in water" work...

a nice heavy diode will do wonders ,and if your water is pure enough it won't even draw any
current or do much of anything...[a good starting point when mixing electrolytes ]

shoot me an Email if you want more help..

thank you!

and yes Jikwan,in case you did not know...the gas you play with is explosive, the electricity you
play with can Kill you...and just in case you really don't understand ...the electricity can make a spark and blow you up...also some electrolytes off gas poisons ,some are deadly all by themselves and  while we're at it watch out for screwdrivers too, be extra careful because more people are killed injured blinded and maimed by the miss use of the common #2 screwdriver ...
and it all goes down hill from there...

You may think it is a joke.  The gas did kill and maim members of the Larsen family in two separate incidences that destroyed the buildings they were in.  The Larsens compounded the danger by idiotically compressing the electrolyzed gas.

You should really stick with the power supply. You can even use one from an other device, just connect some wires somehow.
Using mains can easily result in a plasma, then you got cold fusion going on without to even know it ^^

As it was said, be careful with the gas, hydrogen with or without oxygen is explosive, so use good ventilation. Also Salt in the water will buil chlorine gas, which is toxic.

To drink oxygen-enriched water may feel good, but remember, the brighter the candle burns, the faster it burns down. That's what Oxygen does. May be good from time to time, but don't overdo it.

your being Hollywood [a saying we use in Brooklyn]

embellishing a shpleeelburg scenario of storing HHO under pressure or in Volume [Both big No no's] for a cheesy little
2 plate cell running off the mains at very low efficiency and very low  frequency ....

 Hollywood !!!

thx
Chet

Chet you are assuming a lot.  Let me put it to you this way:  Our friends at UL/CSA/VDE consider any voltage over 42.4V potentially lethal.  Above those voltages special care must be exhibited in the construction and test of any equipment so that people don't get hurt or killed.  Rectified the 240V mains are nearly seven times that level.  Neither you nor I know much other than jikwan presents himself as inexperienced.  On top of that voltage, an electrolysis combines: electricity, water, and salts that make the water conductive.   The 240V mains have lots of potential to make that a deadly situation.  If you want to give me crap for discouraging a novice from "playing on the freeway", then be my guest.

no it was the Blow yourself up part and the  high pressure stored HHO analogy..
where the heck does that apply here??
but you know that already...

Playing with mains electricity and water is dangerous??
wow   :o
yes good thing you just _now_ decided to tell us that ..
no wonder your on this forum 24/7 365 ..
with all us idiots out there its not safe anywhere else
is it??

thanks ....
