.....if we replace the two monkeys/ masses from :

.....with two masses , playing each one , on a separate belt arrangement (see yellow colour ), as seen at :

.....as a resembling first line image , using steam as its working fluid , you can see at :

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_engine

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Grazebrook_Beam_Engine.jpg

Our problem can be to replace (fire+water=steam pressure ) with (continuous gravity unbalance+free fall=gravity "pressure") , in a simplified design (minimum number of spare parts ).

     Hi !
Conceptually ,as a general idea , when you play seesaw (fulcrum, bar, two masses) , you apply the principle of variable / oscillatory leverage.

As you know , there are three classes of levers...the variable/oscillatory leverage , is alike...

Starting with this image , we can develop a variety of automat ("self") motion models , due to ("free falling") gravity unbalance...switching ,every half-turn ,the torque difference (gravity "push" ) on the same side of the fulcrum.

Enstenow , as I see , you have a proposal on this line...so , good luck for your test !

.....is a non difficult evolution , development of a simple machine (lever) into a self-moving simple machine , due to inertia and the continuous gravity unbalance.

Thinking about the millions and millions of existing seesaws (fulcrum +first class lever ) , we can use them as "frames" and play variable leverage , if we add :

-a stable/fixed mass (fixed on the constant arm).

-a sliding mass(oscillating to and fro ) on the variable arm.

Variable/oscillatory leverage is a natural phenomenon ( motion of the celestial bodies/masses) , ...and so , becomes a common "intellectual property"...

Because "they" stated  the "impossibility" of this kind of motion /devices as "triple"...we can triple our designs (three kind of levers...variable/oscillatory leverage ) , also.

.....can be imagined with a diversity of variable/oscillatory arm.

The sliding to and fro mass/point (on the variable arm of the lever ) can move on a cardioidic trajectory:  http://poncelet.math.nthu.edu.tw/chuan/zoo/cardioid.gif

...so to play a continuous alternately unbalance with the fixed mass (on the opposite arm of a first class lever ).

In this manner we can diversify an (automat) seesaw/variable leverage game...

.....can be regarded as an oscillating simple machine (variable lever ) , easy to be developed into a self moving device , due to gravity unbalance and a continuous interplay with inertia.

This alternately game happens , in the same time , on two frames:

-gravity (up and down) , acting as an accelerator (active partner)

-inertia (forth and back) , acting as a reflecting condition (passive partner)

Can you please explain in a simple terms how this system is supposed to work?
So far I don't see it is possible, but very interested anyway.
Than you.

An inertia of each of the barrels helps each other  to maintain the momentum  through the linkage? Similar to abovementioned patent application?

   Hi !
The one and the other are similar "baby ideas".
If we add a conditional "synchro" motion , we have a possible  workable design.
The good news : if you  exercise your understanding ("eye") related to variable/oscillatory leverage principle of continuous motion due to gravity and inertia , you can discover on net ...a lot of "baby ideas".
The main idea is to play the center of mass of a simple arrangement (fulcrum, lever, two masses ) :
www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxfqvP5HasE   ...but as a "self" (due to gravity fall and inertia, only!).

hi all, let me dance here, i want to share my opinion.

with that config ( brasetmanetonsxe1.jpg ), u  can not get 180 degree cw and ccw rotation,
( pict 1 :=  green area cc, gray area ccw).
using 2 or 4 pendulum, approximately it will stop at red circle.
i don't know equation, must be some user know equetion well. please Share Share

i have an old idea about this, get 2d animation at download area, file name MGWno3.rar
compiled by delphi, win32 XP, screen shoot ( pict 2)

basic / theory, combination, ( pict 3),
u still need to figure out the locking mechanism, point AB or BC ( pict 2), have to lock and release at the same time.

this is still unproven to work. use if u like.

regards.

    Hi Marsing !
Firstly , A  Happy New Year 2014 !
It seems that this topic develops himself , as a really "baby ideas" place  or seesaw game.
Your design is intended to play variable/oscillatory motion due to gravity unbalance and inertia with a 2,3 class lever.
In my opinion  ,you can make a target of a workable arrangement , if you will take some steps , begin to test it.
Simply , the play with the real physics , will open your mind ("eyes") for the appropriate steps of your "baby idea".
I wish you success ! / Al_ex

Hi alex

"baby ideas", i like that term,
so baby plan landed on baby island.
more baby will come i guest. you will be busy,
hope will not disturb as i saw you have many project to do.

yes i will take next step when i find a key to open the door.
nothing special about key, only to calculate torque/force to collector circle( pict 1).

and happy new year too.

Marsing
