There`s a similar thing on youtube, but the person built it using sledge hammers! :)

      Hi !
I suppose it's taking about "Thor's hammers" .

You can find it at:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh2a4a6JPM8

The real performance can be to play a single hammer (with a variable handle),in the manner of higher up  "two swinging sticks".

.....as you can see up there (The swinging sticks/big size) ,can be a quick insight, mental "entry" and an easy allusion (an indirect,or quite direct reference...as you like) for a possible  self moving lever (a two sticks type game) due to gravity fall-inertia storage interplay...

.....can jump from a false idea or conception,to a common elementary real fact,if you take a short look at :   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcmMvFj5b_0

As an abstraction ,thinking apart from the material objects ,we have a fulcrum ,a straight line/bar ,and a mass moving to and fro at one end of the bar.

If we replace the performance of the acrobat with "something"...can we have a "new game"(self-motion,due to gravity and inertia)?!

Remind that sometimes, the wonder is the seed of our science...

.....can "jump" so easy, from illusion to reality,if we replace the performance of the acrobat at:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6pTgz9hkf8&feature=related   with a "something",as I supposed up there...

This "something"  can be  a simple hinge, free to rotate no more than 180*...if you play gravity fall and inertia "spring"/in-out storage...

.....with a slow motion,this time at:   www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjfejVNRqQg

Can this strange illusion help us,to test a possible self-motion..due to gravity and inertia,in the most simple mode (and SHAPE!!!...)!?

My opinion:try to limit the rotation of the small stick...that's all !

.....sometimes is a very slight , gradual  or subtle difference.

Let's take a look at : www.squidoo.com/the-swinging-sticks-kinetic-energy-sculpture

Their challenge related to the shape is : this is the "outside" of a perpetuum mobile device.

Their secrecy about the working principle is :the "inside" has "hidden" spare parts (coil , magnets ,electric battery ).

If we keep on their challenge about the  "outside" (shape ) , can we play continuous motion , without the "inside" (hidden spare parts...) ?

Seems like a type of chaotic pendulum.

      Hi  !
Really , it's a chaotic pendulum , due to an interplay  of gravity unbalance and  a magnetic "boosts" process (magnets in the sticks vs. coil and electric battery in the basement).

If we add a rotation restriction for the small stick ("no more than 360*") , I suppose , we can obtain a regular spinning (so , not a chaotic one...) ...maybe a more accurate "mimic" motion of the "perpetuum motion "(this is their "challenge"!).

It can be the first step TO a "clean"  continuous  mechanical  motion , due to gravity unbalance and rotational inertia...

....starting with an " artifice " :

....but playing the variability of a simple supported beam , as :
