Linear Alternator/Generator anyone?

I've been driving myself crazy trying to find info on building a linear alternator/generator.

I'm trying to get details on setups similar to the shake lights or the wave buoys that use a similar concept. A magnet or array of magnets passing thru the center of a coil or multiple coils.

Has anyone done any experiments using small coils and neo magnets that can post some preliminary results with the magnet strength and possibly details on the coil (wire size, number of turns), output of the coil(s)?

I'm trying to determine where I should start and get an idea of what improvements can be made. I'm also curious as to what type of coil would work best.

I actually just got thru most of that thread. Interesting concept you've got there!

Do you wind your own coils? or do you have an easy/cheap supply?

I wind my own mostly.  Its usually a situation where there is nothing that I could buy that would fit.  Besides bulk wire is a lot cheaper than pre-wound coils.

My idea was to set up the linear generator with 2 magnets inside the tube with a rod between them, so each one is near each end of the coil.  Place 2 stator magnets in opposition at the each end of the coil, so they repel the magnets inside the coil.  At this point, nothing moves and no electricity is generated. The magnets inside the coil find a balance between the two opposing magnets and come to rest.

Next, set up 2 non-ferrous discs on a horizontal axel.  The discs rotate between the stator magnet and the coil/coil-magnets.  On those discs, place a number of ferrous metal tabs, well spaced.  The tabs on each disc should be staggered from one another so when the right disc tab is between the stator magnet and coil, the left side is open.  And vicaversa, so the right side and left side of the coil never have a tab/shield arrive at the same time.
In theory, and that's all this is right now, the magnets inside the coil should shift (move) each time a tab blocks the magnetic repulsion from the right or left stator magnet.  That oscillation should generate electricity.  Really, the tabs on the disc are just an attempt to interrupt the balanced repulsion between the left & right stator magnets against the magnets inside the coil.

Free energy?  I have no idea yet.  It's just a theory.  It will take energy to rotate the discs.  Magnetic attraction will act against that rotation.  But, Lenz's Law should not affect the rotation of the discs.  This is a lot like the Lentzless generator setup.  I just want to add a linear generator inside the coil to see what happens.

If this sounds interesting enough to try yourself, please do and post your findings so others can learn from it, or build one for themselves if it works well.

I've been wondering if this setup could power itself or, barring that, be placed on a wind turbine to operate in low speed winds.  I can't find an example of this particular setup online.  If you find one, please post a link so I can see it.  Or, if you have already tried it, let me know how well or not well it worked or didn't work for you.
